Terms of Service

The agreement between you and MyBookWorth. Section 4 is the one that matters most.

1. Who these terms are with

MyBookWorth (mybookworth.com) is operated by Antonio Lopes, an individual established in Portugal (“we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. Questions go to [email protected].

2. What the service actually is

MyBookWorth is a comparable-sales search tool. You describe a book, or upload a photo of its cover, and we return listings from our database of roughly 800,000 real auction and marketplace records for books, antique maps, and antique prints. Each result shows the price attached to that listing, a similarity score, and a link to the original listing so you can check it yourself.

It is equally important to be clear about what the service is not:

• It is not an appraisal service. We do not produce a single figure for your copy, and nothing on this site is a professional valuation, an authentication, or a certificate of any kind.
• It is not a marketplace. You cannot buy or sell anything here. We do not take payment, hold goods, or act as an intermediary in any transaction.
• It is not a live price feed. Records are historical snapshots of listings as they appeared when collected, and prices, availability, and the linked pages may have changed since.
• There are no user accounts. Nothing needs registering, and there are no credentials for you to keep secure.

3. Accuracy, and where the data comes from

Our records are collected from publicly accessible listing pages published by third-party auction houses and online marketplaces. The descriptions, prices, and images in a result come from the seller or the auction house that published them, not from us. We show a short extract and always link back to the source.

We do not verify those listings. A listing may be inaccurate, may describe a later printing as a first edition, may not have resulted in a completed sale, or may have been withdrawn. Matching is done automatically by software, so a result may simply not be a genuine comparable for your book. Treat the similarity score as a hint, not a judgement.

If you own a listing and want it removed from our index, email [email protected] with the URL and we will remove it.

4. No warranty, and limitation of liability

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.

Prices shown are indicative of a market, not guaranteed values for your copy. Condition, edition, binding, provenance, the presence and state of a dust jacket, and the venue of sale can each move a real price by a large multiple. Do not buy, sell, insure, or price a book on the strength of this site alone. For anything of significant value, get an opinion from a qualified bookseller, appraiser, or auction specialist.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or from reliance on any result it returns — including a book bought for too much or sold for too little. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any statutory rights you have as a consumer.

5. Acceptable use

When using MyBookWorth, you agree not to:

• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the site, or use automated means to extract our results at volume.
• Republish or resell our search results as a dataset, or present them as your own valuation product.
• Upload images you have no right to use, or images containing other people, identity documents, or other personal data.
• Attempt to overload, probe, or interfere with the site or the systems behind it.
• Use the service for any unlawful purpose, or to misrepresent a book to a buyer.

We may rate-limit, block, or withdraw access where use breaches this section, and we may change or discontinue any part of the service at any time.

6. Content you submit

You keep ownership of anything you upload. By uploading a photo you grant us a limited licence to process it solely to identify the book and to run the resulting search, as described in our Privacy Policy. You confirm you have the right to upload it. We do not claim any rights in your book, your photo, or your collection.

7. Intellectual property

The site’s own text, guides, design, and software are ours and are protected by copyright. You may quote or link to our pages with attribution. Third-party listing content, titles, images, and trade marks appearing in search results remain the property of their respective owners; they appear here for identification and comparison, and their presence does not imply any endorsement or affiliation.

8. Advertising and affiliate links

The site carries third-party display advertising and some outbound links may earn us a commission. This never changes which results a search returns, or the order they appear in. The full explanation is on our advertising and affiliate disclosure page.

9. Links to other sites

Results and pages link out to auction sites, marketplaces, and other third parties. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, prices, or practices, and your dealings with them are entirely between you and them.

10. Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the law of Portugal, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country, and you may use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.

We may revise these terms as the service changes. The revision date below always shows the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
